The reason that so many people are so unhappy in the world today is because they are continuously chasing things outside of themselves that they believe will give them a sense of purpose. They look to other people to give them relevance or importance. They look for a job that can make them feel important or useful. Lottery wins are wished for so that a sense of freedom can be felt. Many aspire to become celebrities in order to feel adored and loved.

The thing to realise is that all of the people, material objects, and circumstances that exist outside of you are the effect of a cause. All of the things existing in your outer environment are physical values assigned to, and representing, some measurement of purpose.
